Spandex Model is the ambient project of Philadelphia-based musician and sound artist Andrew North. The project utilizes dark, baleful textures, reverb-soaked synthesizers, and fragmented distortion to create dense, sculpted soundscapes. Their latest EP Concrete Spa, is a series of processed loops, angular melodies, and computer-generated noise that acts as a paean to Philadelphia’s post-industrial architecture. The five-song release explores the beauty of the city’s ruinous and rusticated structures, guiding the listener into a synthetic world that vacillates between stark alienation and mechanized warmth.
