Fortune Teller Says…!

An exhibition showcasing an interactive installation that is made out of a plexiglass box and fortune cookies. Relating the time period before orgasm and the forced silence 4’33’’, Jasmine borrowed the idea of John Cage so she put down the sentence “You have to cum exactly at 4’33’’ ” - this sentence was first conceived for an instructional sexual message to the lover of Jasmine’s friend. Realizing how profound this comparison is, she decided to make this sentence into actual objects. Thought about making them into neon, Jasmine eventually made them into fortune cookies with other two variations - “you may cum at 4’34’’”, “you cannot cum”.

Jasmine b. 1996 Suzhou is a conceptual artist based in Oakland, California. She graduated from San Francisco Art Institute with an MFA in 2020, which is the worst year to graduate. Jasmine has been showing in both eastern and western world that she considers herself as a cultural jammer. Jasmine has a background in photography, but one day she almost ditched her photo practice. Sometimes, she still considers herself a photographer. Notwithstanding being a conceptual artist, Jasmine is undoubtedly a big fan of sound, electronic, analog syn, experimental music and noises. (Now she wishes she could be a sound artist!)
